National heavyweight law firm Freeth Cartwright has been appointed to a panel to advise a Consortium of London Councils.  The four year appointment will see the firm provide legal services to the 14 boroughs that make up the Consortium.  The work will cover a number of areas including commercial, contracts, procurement & outsourcing, housing, property, PPP and PFI, planning, regeneration and construction litigation, environment, social care, child care, employment, litigation and regulatory matters.

Stephen Pearson, Freeth Cartwright's public sector specialist partner said: "We are very happy to be appointed.  This reinforces Freeth Cartwright's strategy to develop its role as a nationwide supplier of a full range of legal services to the Public Sector."

"Opening our London office in April will help us to support the London Authorities'' added head of the Freeth Cartwright team, Philippa Dempster.

The Consortium is made up of the City of London, Thanet District Council, the London Borough Councils for Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Havering, Hillingdon, Merton, Redbridge and Sutton as well as the Borough Councils for Maidstone, Dartford, Tunbridge Wells and Swale.

Mark Bowen, Director of Legal, Democratic and Customer Services at the London Borough of Bromley said:  “We were delighted with the interest from law firms in participating in the consortium arrangements and we consider we have secured a panel of the highest quality which will not only deliver excellent and cost effective legal work across the range of functions carried out by participating councils but also added value benefits around training and resource sharing.”
